Obviously this will be one of the most debated theories in the Harry Potter world until the release of the seventh book. The theories can range anywhere from simple to off the wall. I personally like to stick to the point. I don't like over analyzing the book, but I think certain facts have to be included. There are many facts that show both the "good side" and "bad side" of Severus Snape. There are many facts to why he is innocent, and to why he is guilty of the murdering of Albus Dumbledore. Below I will list facts supporting his innocence and facts that will make him look like a traitor. Then I will discuss the facts and give you my opinion. Innocent: Dumbledore always had trust for him. Dumbledore pleads with Snape saying "Severs..Please" and I think we all know that Dumbledore is not plead for his life. He is not that kind of person. Gives Harry advice telling him to "Close his mind" at the end of the book. Is this coming from someone who commit murder? Dumbledore met at Privet Drive to discuss the plans for the following year in advance. He never did this in the past. Are these clues for a plotted death? Dumbledore stuns Harry with his invisibility cloak on before the death takes place. Is this done so that he doesn't interfere with what is meant to happen? Hagrid's quote: "Well - I jus' heard Snape sayin Dumbledore took too much for granted an' maybe he - Snape - didn' wan' ter do it anymore -" I feel this is a major clue showing that It was a plotted death that Snape didn't want to do "No!" roared Snape's voice and the pain stopped as suddenly as it had started" "...We are to leave him! Go! Go!" - Snape Guilty: Eavesdropped on Trelawney's prophecy to report back to the Voldemort. Dumbledore says something along the lines of his "mistakes can be much larger" than most. Once a Death Eater, always a Death Eater These are few of many facts or reasons that could support facts for Snape being both guilty or innocent. Let's take a look at each of these facts. Dumbledore always had a trust for Snape. Is there any possible false information Snape could slipped Dumbledore to have him form such a strong opinion? I think not, but there could be certain information that he passed on that Voldemort told him to, to assure his loyalty. Dumbledore in HBP pleads with Snape. He says "Severus..please.." This is coming from the mouth of Dumbledore who also said "After all, to the well-organized mind, death is but the next great adventure." Dumbledore is not the person who would plead at the hands of someone like that. Who better is there to be the pre-arranged murderer than Severus Snape? It proves loyalty to Voldemort, and puts the end to a death that was coming in the near future anyway. Dumbledore plans in advance at Privet Drive, something we have never seen. I think this shows he knew it was coming to him. Of course there is the fact that Dumbledore might have been taking precautions, knowing that his death could happen at any given time with the wizarding world at the state it is. Here are a few quotes from HBP that I feel support the fact that Snape is innocent. Quote: "What are you doing?" "Did you do the necklace, that was stupid, it could have blown everything-" But I haven't told him what I've been doing in the Room of Requirement, he's going to wake up tomorrow and it'll all be over and he won't be the Dark Lord's favorite anymore, he'll be nothing compared to me, nothing!"
