Witches and wizards have their own form of money that they use in the Wizarding World. There are three different types of coins that they use. The coin that is worth the most is a gold coin called a Galleon. Wizards and witches also use a coin called a Sickle which is a silver coin. There are seventeen Sickles to a Galleon. The coin worth the least amount is a small bronze coin called a Knut. There are twenty-nine Knuts to a Sickle and four-hundred-ninety-three (493) Knuts to a Galleon. Wizards keep their money in a wizarding bank called Gringotts. Below are the currency conversions for wizard money to Muggle money. The conversions are based on the information in the forward to the Comic Relief books that states that £174 million is equal to 34 million Galleons. Please note that the prices have been rounded off and they may change if the value of the dollar or pound changes. 1 Galleon = £5.12 1 Sickle = £0.30 1 Knut = £0.01 Here are the prices of some of the things in the Harry Potter books: Wand: 7 Galleons Daily Prophet: 5 Knuts Dragon Liver: 1 Galleon an ounce Omnioculars: 10 Galleons |
